Beverage Industry Environmental Roundtable, Facilitated by Antea™Group, Featured in MillerCoors Sustainable Development Report

November 29th, 2011

St. Paul, MN, November 29, 2011 – In its third annual Sustainable Development Report, MillerCoors enhances its comprehensive evaluation of the company’s sustainability and responsibility initiatives by featuring perspectives from outside stakeholders. The Report highlights MillerCoors’ involvement in the Beverage Industry Environmental Roundtable (BIER) to illustrate the company’s commitment to listening, learning and collaborating with others – a key element of its strategy. BIER was founded by and is facilitated by Antea Group’s Global Corporate Consultancy (GCC).

The 2011 publication examines the five areas of MillerCoors’ core strategy and specifically showcases four stakeholders to provide more context and insight for readers of the Report. The Report’s Environmental Sustainability section outlines the company’s environmental sustainability priorities of water stewardship, energy efficiency, sustainable packaging and waste reduction. The feature on BIER in this section includes the roundtable’s industry approach to water footprinting and serves as the ideal backdrop for BIER, one of four outside stakeholders selected to contribute to the Report.

In a full-page narrative, Tod Christenson, BIER Director and GCC Partner, supplies context that defines BIER, clarifies its objectives and outlines member expectations. He also provides insight into the specifics of MillerCoors’ participation.

“MillerCoors is recognized as a class leader in water stewardship due to its conservation practices across the sector and multi-faceted engagements with external stakeholders through partnerships and community involvement. Like most of our members, MillerCoors has the opportunity to bring the same level of commitment and engagement to nvironmental issues in its supply chain–moving beyond activities and projects to a more systematic or programmatic approach with measurable results. The company has shown that when it commits to any issue, it is strong and steadfast in follow through.”

In addition to acknowledging MillerCoors’ positive impact, Christensen uses the opportunity to challenge the company to aim higher.

“As with all BIER members, MillerCoors can play a larger role in contributing to help raise the standing of the beverage industry among policy-makers and other NGOs through effective communication. We need our members with strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills to enhance their efforts.”
